Your skin is the largest organ in your body. It protects you from disease, tells you when you’re too warm or too cold and it’s the first thing people see when they look at you. Skincare is something that many of us take for granted. Wash with soap or cleanser, moisturize when it gets too dry and always wear sunscreen to protect yourself from damage. Most people have some kind of rudimentary skincare regimen, and many people have more than a rudimentary skincare regimen. No matter whether you’re the kind of person who sometimes forgets to wash makeup off at night or the kind of person with a seven step daily skincare routine, you can always benefit from occasional trips to the real professionals at the spa.

Expertise

Unless you have the training to work at a spa, odds are you don’t have all the expertise of a spa employee, and that means something. No matter how dedicated you are to your natural skin care routine, professionals are likely to have more knowledge and experience than you. They may spot symptoms you never would have noticed, and they may have techniques you know nothing about.

Skills

There are plenty of skincare skills that you can acquire and use for yourself, but there are others that you don’t need as regularly, and that’s where spas and the professionals who work there come in. If there’s a particular treatment that you should only do on occasion, or a treatment that takes many steps in a particular order, then it just plain makes sense to leave that to the professionals. It’s their job to know how to do that kind of thing, and they’ll have the equipment for it.

Equipment

There are loads of special supplies that it’s easier to get access to when you’re a spa and not an individual. Whether it’s obscure ingredients that they can afford to buy in bulk or a special piece of equipment that’s large or should only be used every once in a while, spas are bound to have more access and better tools at their disposal than you do at home. Plus, they know how to use those tools correctly.

Advice

Knowledge is key. Professionals who deal with a wide variety of skin types and problems every day have the expertise, skills and equipment that you lack. They can give you advice about those skin conditions that you’re working with, and may be able to share advice about what products will be effective and what treatments you want to avoid. A spa professional’s advice is just as valuable as their time, so it’s worth it to go to the spa every once in a while to make sure that you’re operating on the best advice. Sometimes advice from the internet just won’t cut it.

Relaxation

Last but not least, it’s well worth it to go to a spa for the same reason anyone else does: to relax. Spas are a great place to relax. Once there, your only job is to lie back and get pampered. If you need more reason than that, consider this: stress is bad for your skin, just as it’s bad for the rest of your body. Anything you can do to lower your stress levels will therefore be good for your skin, on some level.

Whether it’s for specialized treatment, expert advice or just to relax a little bit, there are plenty of reasons to give yourself and your skin a spa day. Why not take advantage of the special skills, equipment and relaxing atmosphere? Take a day, get down to your favorite spa, and enjoy the benefits.
