A spa is a facility offering various treatments ranging from beauty treatments and massages to carouse fitness treatments. Most spas also offer services like a pool area, restaurant and café services. Reach the spa 30 minutes before the treatment. That way you can shower and have a tour of the facility. When in a spa it is necessary to follow certain spa etiquette. We have a list of spa etiquettes for you to keep in mind before your next appointment.

What Is Spa Etiquette?

If you have never had a spa treatment, the first treatment can be overwhelming. We usually associate the spa with bathrobe, slippers and oil massages. But it’s a lot more than that! You need to follow certain spa etiquette. Spa etiquettes are practices that help make your experience memorable and relaxing. After all, the main purpose of it is to make you feel calm and relaxed.

When I visited a spa for the first time, I had no idea about these etiquettes. It can be intimidating to see people go about their day like it’s a cakewalk. I’ve researched a lot of free educational websites and concluded that these are the basic spa etiquette one should follow. Therefore, with our help, you too will fit right in! Follow these simple spa etiquettes and make the most out of your spa day!

#1. Know The Place

You should ideally reach the place 30 minutes before the appointment. Once you get to the spa, they usually offer a tour of the place. If not, feel free to ask for one. They are there for your comfort. It is good to know the facility first. That way you can schedule your day for the treatments. Some services like the sauna are complimentary with the treatments. That way you can work it into your schedule as well. You also get to enjoy the calming and soothing environment of the facility.

#2. Treatment

Now once you are familiar with the facility, you should shower before starting your treatments. Just a light shower to make sure you don’t smell. It’s a common spa etiquette to also have breath mints before the treatment so that you don’t have bad breath. Feel free to speak up during the treatments if something is not to your liking. For instance, you can request the music or lighting to be changed. Remember they are there for your service. They will happily comply to offer a personalised experience. Do not rant or talk about your life with the therapist. You won’t be able to relax and have a good time.

#3. Spa Attire

Swimwear is a common spa attire mandated by most spas. You must carry two sets in case you want to change. If you plan on choosing the pool facilities, it is necessary to carry two sets. One to change after. You don’t want to be dripping wet while in the dry areas. You should make a note of the restaurant dress code in the spa. It is common spa etiquette to follow the dress code. Different spas have different dress codes. So, check with them a day before. That way you are well-prepared. Do not apply makeup on the day of the treatment and avoid using any artificial products or perfumes. To have a relaxing experience at the spa be your authentic self.

#4. Inform Therapists Of Any Health Condition

It is necessary to inform the therapist about any health condition you might have. Certain cases require you to avoid some treatments. So, they will be able to help you choose the treatments for you. For instance, if you’re looking for how to slow aging but have a skin condition like Rosacea, it’s best to consult a dermatologist first.

In addition, make sure to book the treatments and meal plans in advance. It’s important that you also inform them of any food allergies that you have. In addition, you can also inquire about different types of foods to include in your diet. For instance, they might be able to help you understand the benefits of using smoked spices.

Everyone is at the spa to relax. You don’t want to miss out on something because it required pre-booking. Therefore, pre-book the treatments from the comfort of your home either online or by calling the spa. However, if you have skin infections like warts, please avoid going to the spa. They are highly contagious. Be responsible and think of the safety of others visiting the spa.

#5. Avoid Photography

Everyone is at the spa to have a relaxing experience. Avoid photography and videography inside the spa area and respect the privacy of others. You can however click pictures at the open areas in the spas and at the restaurants and café areas.

#6. Tipping

Tipping keeps people motivated. It is a good practice to tip 20% of your spa treatment cost. However, it is not customary in most countries. Check the tipping policy with your spa before booking the treatment.

In Conclusion

You should follow a ser of spa etiquettes while visiting a spa. It is a good practice to maintain personal hygiene. The treatment requires no artificial products. Do not use perfume. Always respect other people’s privacy and space. Do not be noisy. Speak in a hushed voice so that you do not disturb the other guests.
