How to Stay Healthy in the Spa Industry - Spa Industry Association

Working in the spa industry means working up close and personal with people from all walks of life. Unlike most jobs, while working at a spa, you are likely to need to have physical contact with your clients and customers.

Keeping yourself healthy will help to keep your clients and customers healthy as well. Below are some tips that spa employees can use to keep their health in tip-top shape.

Take Immune-Support Supplements

Supporting your already healthy immune system  is key when it comes to staying healthy. One of the easiest ways to support your already healthy immune system is to take vitamin supplements. You can buy supplements anywhere you can get vitamins, from a Walmart to a USANA Canada or USA outlet.

There is no one vitamin or mineral that helps to support an already healthy immune system. Instead, several vitamins and minerals work together to get the job done. For this reason, buying some kind of multivitamin is best. If you are not sure which kind to buy, check out the bottle’s labels.

Before taking any kind of new vitamin, make sure to talk to your doctor. Some vitamins and minerals may interact harmfully with prescription medications. When in doubt, consult your physician if you have any questions or concerns about what is right for you.

Stay Hydrated

Spa workers spend much of their day on their feet. The more active people are, the more water they need to drink. The average person will do well to drink eight cups of water a day. However, you may need to drink more if you exercise or live in a hot climate. Your personal health habits, diet, and genes will also help to determine how much water you need to drink on a daily basis. It is also important to note that some days you might need to drink more water than on other days.

Many spas will have lemon or cucumber water on hand. Try to incorporate these drinks into your diet when you can. They are just as hydrating as drinking regular water, and they have other health benefits to boot! These drinks contain natural antioxidants and are a source of vitamin C.

Wash Your Hands Often

The more things and people you touch every day, the more likely you are to pick up on nasty germs that could make you sick. One way to combat these germs is to wash your hands often. For the best cleaning results, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds under warm water. Of course, use soap! If you do not have time to wash your hands, using hand sanitizer is your next best option. Use this just as often as you would wash your hands.

If you wash your hands as often as you should, they may become dried out. This is nothing to worry about. To prevent or reverse dry skin, use moisturizer after you wash your hands. It does not matter which kind you use, so long as you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. However, moisturizers with coconut oil seem to be especially good.

Eat Regular Meals

Skipping meals won’t do you or your clients any good. Skipping meals can make you feel distracted on the job, as well as make you feel less focused in general. Some people may skip meals because they are busy or because they are trying to lose weight. However, skipping meals doesn’t do much to help lose weight; in fact, it can make losing weight even more difficult or cause you to gain weight.

Skipping meals can make losing weight more difficult because, when you skip meals, your metabolism slows down. Skipping meals can make you feel hungrier in between mealtimes, which can encourage you to fill up on calorie-dense snacks instead.

Working in the spa industry comes with a unique set of working conditions. Because of this, spa employees need to work harder to stay healthy, so they can keep their customers and clients healthy. Follow the tips above to make sure your health gets to a good place and stays there.
