beautiful face

Plastic surgery has been around for many years, and has significantly improved in the last ten years or so.

Plastic surgery used to be something that involved a hospital stay, a lengthy recovery, and a certain aura of secrecy surrounding the fact you went under the knife, which would become quite obvious by the dramatic changes to your face, or other part of your body.

Plastic surgery has moved on significantly since then, with many procedures being able to be carried out in a lunch break, with no recovery period, making it a more convenient option for many. There are many practitioners who can carry out these types of procedures, such as MyEthosSpa.

Non-surgical treatments are rarely permanent, meaning the trade-off you get for having a quick procedure and quick recovery times, for a treatment that will need repeating. There are some treatments that can only be done under general anaesthesia, and require a longer healing time.

Non-Surgical Vs Non-invasive

There’s lots of terminology surrounding treatments, so it’s always a good idea to fully investigate the procedure you want performed.

In general, non-surgical and non-invasive treatments mean almost the same thing, and are those that are only performed on the outside of the body, and don’t go through the barrier of the skin.

Minimally invasive means breaking the skin in some way, for example with a needle when injecting something like a filler or Botox.

There are many different types of non-surgical plastic surgery, and we’ll go through a few of them below.

Botox

Botox injections have been around for many years. Botox is a toxin that is produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, and it works by freezing the muscle around the area it is injected into. It is commonly used in the face, often the forehead and around the eyes to soften the appearance of wrinkles.

Botox is usually not too painful, and consists of injecting small amounts of the liquid into the required area. It can be carried out in a normal appointment, and you can generally carry on as normal straight away.

Botox normally lasts around 3-6 months, after which you will need repeat injections.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is when a slightly acidic solution is applied to your face, it is left to sit for a certain amount of time and then removed. Over the next few days you will notice your skin peeling to reveal brighter looking skin.

A chemical peel can be slightly irritating and your skin may be red for the next few days. They can help to improve the look of your skin, making it look brighter and more even.

Chemical peels normally need repeating. Depending on the type you get, this can vary from a few months to a year.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are fillers which are injected into your face and lips, they work by adding volume to the area they are injected into, and smoothing out any wrinkles in the area.

One treatment takes anywhere between 20-30 minutes, immediately after the treatment there will be some swelling and maybe bruising, but this normally settles down after a few days.

Fillers are usually used in the lips, but it is becoming more common for people to use them in cheeks and chins, and also the nose to make the bridge appear straighter.

Fillers are not permanent, and will last from a few months to up to two years depending on the area and the substance used.

Coolsculpting

Coolsculpting works by literally freezing fat. The area being worked on is held between two metal plates and the cold kills off the fat cells and they are removed from the body by its natural detoxing system.

The results from CoolSculpting tend to be permanent, and there is not usually any damage to other types of cells in the area being worked on, there is sometimes a loss of feeling in the area, but it returns within a few days.

Kybella

Kybella is the name of an injection which is usually used under the chin to dissolve the fat in that area that many people have causing the much-hated double chin.

Usually a course of injections is needed, and the results are usually permanent.

Whichever type of plastic surgery you are interested in, always thoroughly research the clinic and the doctor you are considering.

Both the clinic and the doctor should be registered and licensed by the appropriate organisation. Everything should be explained to you in depth and be aware of all the risks before you go ahead.
