On Monday November 6 2017, spas are invited to join together for the third year to provide free services to those undergoing active treatment for cancer and their caregivers. For many people, the isolation and alienation experienced through treatment can be eased through the healing touch of trained wellness professionals. Founded in Chicago, Sparks of Light Day is now reaching international shores with spas in India, Bali and Haiti joining the hundreds participating from around the USA this year.
“Proudly, three Canyon Ranch locations are partnering with local organizations to invite people into our spas for this event,” said Canyon Ranch Spa Club Executive Spa Director, Deirdre Strunk. “Unfortunately like so many others, I have first-hand experience dealing with the impact of cancer on a loved one. This event will have an immeasurably positive impact on our guests and our team. We are offering a variety of gentle services such as massage, facials, manicures and pedicures – whatever pampering, healing offering suits these deserving guests best,” she added.
Sparks of Light resulted from founder Vicky Weis’ personal 13 month journey caring for her mother. She went on to form ‘Faye’s Light’, offering free spa services to people with cancer at her clinic in Chicago. Her vision is for the ‘Sparks of Light’ Day to inspire spas everywhere to provide free treatments at least once a year.
Vicky has developed a turn-key system, and provides participants with email templates for potential guests, treatment protocols and basic guidelines for working with cancer patients. All that spas need to provide is their time and a selection of simple, healthy refreshments.
