Perhaps you have a special occasion approaching. Whether you’re attending a wedding or formal function, have a big interview or meeting to nail, or are preparing to host a party or fundraiser, we imagine that you intend to make a stellar impression. For some, this might mean practicing talking points, or rehearsing a speech, while for others, it might mean a day of self-care as the occasion nears. For most of us, however, one thing remains true: when heading to a big event, we want to look our very best. We all have different ways of prepping for our event — like buying a special outfit, working out to feel strong, or freshening up a tired face with a Botox® or facial filler appointment.

Put Your Best Face Forward

These days, more and more Americans are choosing to try a Botox or other facial filler treatment as a way of preparing for a special event. These treatments have gained popularity for a number of reasons, some of the most significant being the minimally invasive nature of the procedure, as well as the attractive results it produces.

Because Botox treatments and other fillers are non-surgical, they make an ideal choice for an extra-special pre-event facial. Like many similar treatments, the post-procedural process for fillers is a breeze. As no surgery is required here, Botox and dermal filler treatments can be slotted into even the busiest schedule. After all, it’s a swift procedure — the whole thing only takes a few minutes —  and there isn’t any need for downtime afterwards.

This handy lack of recovery period combined with the ease of the procedure allows for a more flexible experience altogether. This is a blessing when it comes to the busy runup you might be facing before a big event: your filler appointment will be one of the easiest errands you do!

Your Facial Filler Timeline

Like many cosmetic procedures, Botox and filler results tend to take some time to fully work their magic; generally, it takes a few days, or even a couple of weeks for patients to see their results in the mirror. If you are planning to get Botox or another type of dermal filler in preparation for a particular date, we recommend that you think about the timing of your procedure. This will help ensure that when the big day arrives, you arrive at your event feeling confident, relaxed, and camera-ready.

If you need a hand navigating the timing of your procedure, we’re happy to help. Have a look at our basic dermal filler and Botox timeline to ensure that you put your best face forward for your next event:

1. Speak to a Professional

Though both Botox and fillers are known for being quite safe and straightforward, it is always a wise choice to speak with an experienced professional before deciding on any type of medical procedure. We recommend that, before having a filler treatment, you speak to (or visit with) the clinician who will be performing your injections, especially if it’s your first time. This will give you a better understanding of what to expect from your procedure, as well as give your physician the chance to understand your own unique features and circumstances. No two patients are the same, and speaking to your clinician in advance will ensure that you proceed in a way which works best for you.

2. Book Your Procedure

Botox and facial fillers may be one of the more relaxed types of cosmetic procedure, but it’s still a medical treatment, and should be treated as such. This is not the type of service where one can just show up and see if there’s availability on the day — it’s essential to book an appointment.

If you’re planning your procedure as part of a special occasion, we recommend that you make your appointment as soon as you know the event date. This will guarantee you a spot when you actually need it. This is especially important during the holidays, or wedding season, when more people are preparing to dress to the nines. Don’t miss out on your appointment by waiting too long.

3. Have Your Treatment

We recommend that you have your Botox or facial filler appointment well in advance of your big event — but not too far off. Generally, we suggest that patients give themselves a full two weeks, or fourteen days, to see their results. Though many folks see results sooner, it’s better to allow yourself more time than to wake up the day of your event and feel disappointed over yet-to-emerge results. If you really wanted to play it safe, you could give it an extra week or two.

It’s important to note that fillers and Botox don’t last forever. Depending on your dose, as well as the actual treated areas, your results could stick around for as long as six months to around six weeks. To ensure that your results are fully on show, we suggest that you book your procedure for less than five weeks before your big event.

4. Heal and Recover

In the days that follow your procedure, you are not required to rest… but it might be a good idea. Having a relaxed couple of days can help reduce the amount of swelling and bruising you experience after your injection. We recommend catching up on some emails and other indoor activities — for a few days following their procedure, patients should avoid too much sunshine, wearing makeup, or drinking alcohol or caffeine. This will allow for better results.

Patients tend to experience some bruising, swelling, numbness, and redness after their Botox or filler procedure. These types of reactions are normal and should improve within a few days. It can also help to ice or massage the affected areas.

5. Attend Your Big Event

The day has arrived, and you look amazing. Don’t forget to take pictures!
