Finding Ways to Help People with Hormone Imbalances

Hormone imbalances are more common than most people realize. Unfortunately, they can impact your overall health and well-being in a variety of ways. One survey found that nearly half of women aged 30-60 have experienced negative symptoms due to hormonal imbalances.

Many factors can cause hormones to fluctuate. Thyroid issues, dietary problems, and even genetics can play a part. Your sleep habits can also cause major fluctuations, as sleep helps to regulate hormones like cortisol, melatonin, estrogen, and more.

People dealing with hormone imbalances should first talk to their physicians about possible causes and treatment options. But, what can you in the spa industry do to help those dealing with the negative symptoms associated with those imbalances?

What Issues Are Associated with Hormone Imbalances?

First, it’s important to know what some of your clients might be struggling with. Some of the most common symptoms of hormone imbalances include:

  • Weight gain
  • Fatigue
  • Pain and stiffness in the joints
  • Muscle aches
  • Weakness

A sudden shift in hormones can also impact mental health, especially if someone is experiencing pain and exhaustion. Depression and fatigue are often linked, and both can be impacted by imbalances. Because your body could be producing more cortisol due to stress, you might also start to feel more anxious.

We mentioned how hormones and sleep are also connected, but that connection could end up doing a lot of damage. When you aren’t getting enough sleep, your hormones could shift, even more, creating a vicious cycle that will negatively impact your overall wellness and could even weaken your immune system.

How to Help

There are many ways to regulate naturally hormones, and some of them are things you should consider offering when you work in the spa industry. Some of the best natural solutions include:

  • Exercise
  • Getting enough sleep

Reducing stress levels is another great way to manage hormone levels while taking care of some negative symptoms, all at once. A day at the spa is great for mental health and lowering stress. But, it can also help those dealing with fatigue, muscle and joint pain, and weakness. If you offer exercise or yoga programs or even have on-site nutritionists, they can also help anyone working through the effects of hormone shifts.

Because so many people – especially women – deal with hormone imbalances throughout life, it’s important to find ways to soothe and comfort them when they come in as clients. Finding ways to help those people means better business for your spa, and peace of mind knowing you’re doing something to provide peace and relief to your customers.
