Who and What is the day spa market?
The spa market has been around for 1000’s of years and yet its only 60 or so years old in the US market. The original “day spa” hardly exists any more as our industry has melded into one big wellness tent. Under this umbrella are the following; spa, salon, resort, medical spa, esthetic, nutrition, chiropractic, naturopathy, weight loss, nursing, acupuncture, mobile facilities, hospitals and more.
We’ve been asked “does your association only support day spas?”
The answer is no! All are welcome in our associations and we hope you’ll join and help us “connect the community.”
A message from Allan Share
We are unique Associations in that we don’t fit the old mold of “support the end user and periodically ask vendors for participation.” The Spa Industry Association (SIA) is built on the following model; Support the industry by allowing members to access benefits at no charge and give Vendors a focused marketing plan that drives new business.
Marketing with us is 24/7, 365 days is and supported by our team who actively manage the process all year, making sure you get “strong Return On Investment.”

The Day Spa Association (DSA) was formed in 1991 to support the growth of Day Spas in the Americas. Benefits to our industry included legislative help, a place for questions and answers and much, much more. The growth of the Spa market enhanced the DSA as “the association of the wellness industry” and DSA has endeavored to support all modalities in this arena for the over 28 years.
The biggest benefit is not hard to quantify and here it is; we are the go-to stop for questions and answers. Most of the calls that come in to the SIA relate to “how do I find…?” or “where do I get information on…” and if we don’t have the answers, we know where to find the information you’re looking for.
In 2010, Allan Share, previous owner of New Life Systems and Lotus Touch, took over the helm as President. Allan’s 28 years of experience as a distributor and manufacturer, make him uniquely qualified to run the DSA and IMSA. Allan sold his companies to a Private Equity Group in 2007, stayed on as an industry consultant for several years and now heads up the fastest growing, most innovative Associations in our industry. He speaks at many trade shows on topics ranging from “Superior Retail Selling” to “Trends in the Industry.” You can also find Allan at the IECSC shows doing the super-popular Spa Tours. Industry leaders who go on these tours of these spa tours in different cities, rave about the experience and become regular attendees!
The DSA and IMSA are incredible resources for connecting people in the spa, medical spa, and wellness communities. In 2016, the DSA and IMSA merged into the SIA. We get asked all the time “what do you do”?
It’s simple, we support owners, operators, managers, and all those actively working in the spa and wellness channel. We support you with education, industry magazines, resources, legislative help, and much, much more.
The DSA and IMSA have supported our industry through education, a resource library, providing expert speakers around the globe and at a base level, answering the phone and email on a daily basis to get quick answers to your questions on all topics! Our membership and contacts are as diverse as our industry. A simple question like “what’s a Spa?” has turned into a much larger answer given the growth and evolution in our industry.
Our vast databases (82,000+ mailing addresses and 43,000+ email addresses) are made up of active members who are health care professionals in the spa, salon, esthetic, massage, medical and general wellness world. Members are interested in keeping up to date with the latest trends, products and services to improve their business. Our members are made up of business owners, managers, operators and independent practitioners who are in the market for beauty industry information, continuing education programs and general business information that relates to technology, financial, customer service and business tools for growth and success.

Email List Use – Our core email list is made up of owners and operators, managers and decision makers. It may be segmented any number of ways and our experience with email on behalf of our vendors is useful in gaining brand exposure, boosting promotions and adding to your customer base
Hot Products – During the sponsorship year, we will ask you for a unique product offering, a bit of blurb, a live link and we will showcase those items in a compiled email to our membership
Get to Know our Sponsors – We hear so often “I’d like more information on (skin care, equipment, retail line) and our “know your sponsor” program is a lead generator. We will showcase your item(s) with your information and a form for prospects to fill out. These leads will be forwarded to you
Meet the Team – Pick two team members and we will send a list of questions pertaining to them personally and your company. We will take this information with a head shot and share it with the industry. Our channel is network friendly and all about relationship building
Blog – We have a very active blog. You can blog with us multiple times per month. We have sponsors say “this can be a more successful format in today’s digital world than sending emails”
Great Spa Products – Your products are featured in a very social, friendly format. It is great for branding and gaining back-links to your site. This showcase is an image builder for particular hero products
Social Media – We operate in Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn groups, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. We have a format for sharing your information to help spread the word
Banner Advertisements – Banners can be submitted in multiple sizes and will be rotated on our website
New Member Information Request – You will receive leads many different ways from us and a popular method is from new members joining the association through our website and requesting information on your products
MARKETING
Spa PR – You are our best client and we know you have “best clients” who deserve more PR. This deliverable has two benefits; you get to select some of your best clients, we will gather their “showcase” information and we’ll utilize our reach through our website and social media to help the client gain visibility, industry branding and potentially more clients. In addition, we include how your products are featured in their facility
Homepage Feature – There are several branding and “shout out” areas on our homepage. These include current news, blog post, new product features, education, celebrity clients and various branding opportunities
Sponsor Deliverable Form – Periodically we will ask you to fill out an email form with pertinent information we can use to promote your products. This may be new products, reintroductions of products, new staff, almost anything you would like us to promote
Silent Survey – As an association, we are always engaged in Snap Shot Surveys. We also have the unique ability to do a survey on your behalf, without your company name being mentioned, which can help you gain insights from our membership on subjects you’d like to survey
Database Building – During the course of your sponsorship, we will help add names to your database. We let our members know through our opt-in system, that we share their data with our sponsors
VIDEO
Un-Boxing – These videos show how a box of your product is delivered to their door. We will ask you for a hero product to be shipped to our office the way you would to your clients. A video is shot showing the box being opened, your enclosures, a bit about the product and how to reach you. This experiential walk through receiving your products, always have a ton of views
Wellness Minute – Video presentation talking about a wide range of subject matter. We do these short and sweet and cover education, training and meet the person
Meet the Speaker – You attend many shows during the year and have your best educators and staff speaking. We do multiple emails during the year where we highlight your speaker, the content, contact information and their picture
ONGOING RESOURCES
Team Member Sourcing – People are constantly on the move in our industry, they take new jobs, they back to old jobs, they are promoted in companies.
