Imagine your next spa day with an additional element of elevated bliss. CBD skin care treatments have quickly become adopted by estheticians and spas as their popularity has gained traction, and CBD has become more mainstream.

Incorporating CBD into a skin care routine is just as important as using it as a supplement or as part of a wellness ritual. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical compound and a phytocannabinoid that works with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS communicates with all the systems in our body and organs (including our skin) to establish homeostasis. It’s also responsible for the life cycle of basal skin cells, which are the cells that produce new skin cells as old ones die.

Whether you are looking for a spa that offers treatments using CBD or you are looking to add it to your personal skin care routine, you won’t have to look far. Right now, CBD in supplement form is the most common use of it, but the CBD skincare market is quickly gaining traction as more information becomes available. Given it’s long-lasting benefits both orally and topically, it only makes sense that CBD would be used for health, beauty and relaxation treatments in a spa or salon setting.

According to Leafly, a leading cannabis publisher, CBD skin care products can be used for conditions like:

  • Itching
  • Scarring
  • Elasticity
  • Inflammation
  • Acne

Due to its gentle + natural properties, CBD oil has been known to ease even very sensitive skin conditions. Cannabis oils are rich with antioxidants, including Vitamins A, D, and E which can help ward off signs of aging.

Which CBD Product To Use At Spas

With more information and education available about CBD, slowly more and more spas are offering CBD facials and other topical CBD services to their menus.  There’s still hesitation among some to supplement with CBD or try new products on their skin, so offering a CBD facial is a great way to give CBD a try and see how it works with your skin.

There are two types of topicals that are being used at spas, including CBD topicals focused on muscle relief and CBD topicals that improve skin condition.

For example, leading CBD company, Populum, offers a vegan-friendly Cold Therapy Hemp Rub. The rub offers cooling relief and is being used by masseuses across the country during deep tissue massages. Customers rave about the product and have said, “My sore back started to feel better within a few minutes!! I’d highly recommend the Populum Cold Therapy Rub,” and have said that the cold rub is “soothing, calming, and relaxing.”

Another offering from Populum is their Lavender + CBD Face Oil. This product combines the best of both worlds: an all-natural face oil and CBD, which has been quickly adopted by the spa industry because of its powerful benefits. Their vegan-friendly face oil contains only 4 ingredients, making it pure + simple.

Carrying CBD in Your Spa

As consumers, we want to know that the ingredients in the products we are eating, cleaning and supplementing with are clean, simple, and most importantly, easy to understand.

Estheticians are trusted providers at the spa, so Populum made it their goal to assure they are using safe and healthy ingredients in the products they provide. Populum always includes third-party lab test results, ensuring total transparency. Populum also works to provide education to their esthetician and spa partners, ensuring they can speak confidently about the CBD product they are using, as well as educate their own clients on its advantages.

If you’re a retailer and want to add CBD to your facial or massage offerings, here are a few things to look out for:

  • CBD Lab Reports: Because the CBD industry is still unregulated, it is important when buying CBD to make sure the company is providing third-party lab reports that show the quality and efficacy of their product.
  • Clean Ingredients: The skincare industry is notorious for including chemicals and preservatives in products, many confusing for the consumer to read and understand. When looking to buy CBD skincare, make sure the ingredients are clearly stated on the packaging, easy to read, and are recognizable.
  • Make sure to look for items labeled as “CBD” or “cannabidiol” – not “hemp seed oil.” Since CBD is derived from hemp, this is something that is commonly confused.
  • Pay attention to packaging; make sure the skincare product is in a dark colored or solid container, with minimal exposure to air.
