2-Day Better with Age event during Wise Women’s Month features education, networking, and personal and professional development.
(Austin, Texas – October 26, 2026) –
Glowing Older, a media and education platform dedicated to aging well, hosted Better with Age and Women Shaping the Future of Spa on October 14th and 15th at Lake Austin Spa Resort. Day 1 focused on aging well and the future of women’s health, Day 2 was a spa professional only event dedicated to continuing the legacy of spa and supporting the next generation of leaders. Featured during Wise Women’s Month, the event was sponsored by OneSpaWorld, Natura Bissé, Agilysys, Oakworks, Yobee, KNESKO Skin, Body Bliss, Chelsea Bond Jewelry, and Kashwére.
“Glowing Older’s goal is to change the narrative around aging to one of meaning, purpose, and vitality,” said founder Nancy Griffin. “Women Shaping the Future of Spa was a dream come true—a chance to bring together my two passions: the spa industry and aging well. The deep connections and cumulative brain power were incredible; we are looking forward to continuing the conversation!”
Day One opened with strategies for aging well from Griffin, followed by an expert panel featuring Susan Salenger, author of Sidelined: How Women Can Navigate a Broken Healthcare System, microbiome expert Dr. Ruchi Gupta, Northwestern University professor and founder of Yobee, and Laura Gamboa, Director of Corporate Education and Spa Development at Natura Bissé. The morning concluded with an interactive session on values with moderator Jean Kolb.
On Day Two, spa professionals got down to business, tackling the Future of Spa and concrete actions needed to make a difference. Together, attendees brought an impressive 700 years of collective industry experience to the conversation, averaging 25 years per woman.
Key Takeaways:
- Inspire the next generation of spa professionals – Beyond management training and mentorship, we need to share our passion of the industry and the legacy that shaped it.
- Clarity in communication – Attendees stressed the need to meet young people where they are – to empower, encourage, and seek to understand how the different generations think and what they value.
- Beware the shiny new thing – Get back to basics and avoid buying into hype when it comes to equipment and technology. Focus on the power of human connection.
- Collaboration with associations and schools: Attendees encouraged “adopting a local school” and leveraging the cumulative power of associations. An example of a successful collaboration is the work of the Associated Skin Care Professionals (ASCP), The International SPA Association (ISPA), and The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) to advance the Esthetics Licensure Compact.
- Lead forward – The spa leaders agreed we need to take purposeful action to create a better future– focusing on the “Four C’s”: community, collaboration communication and connection.
The event was supported by ISPA, with attendance from four past Chairs, ISPA Foundation Chair and Vice Chair, four current board members, as well as President Lynne McNees, who commented:
“When 40 seasoned spa professionals take time to imagine the industry’s future, they bring both the wisdom of experience and a responsibility to look beyond it. Our conversation kept returning to people — those we serve, those we depend on today and those who will lead us tomorrow. The future of spa will be shaped by how generously we share what we know and how intentionally we create opportunities for others to take it further.”

The SUN ONE Wellness Lamp delivers targeted UVB light at 295 nanometers (“nm”), which is a wavelength range studied for its role in supporting the body’s natural production of vitamin D and healthy inflammatory responses. UVB light has also been widely studied in dermatology for its effects on skin and in connection with conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo, and eczema. Designed with precision LED technology and integrated safety features, SUN ONE makes targeted UVB light easy to incorporate into a modern wellness routine.
According to data from the National Institutes of Health and national health surveys, about 42% of U.S. adults are clinically deficient, while nearly two-thirds have overall insufficient levels.(1) It is estimated that over a billion people worldwide are vitamin D deficient.(2) Vitamin D is a key component for building muscle, keeping bones healthy, and maintaining and optimizing immune function. While spending time outdoors can be a good source of Vitamin D, that option is not always available.
“Over the last 30 years, Clearlight has built its reputation by engineering and manufacturing the highest quality infrared saunas,” said Dr. Raleigh Duncan, founder of Clearlight. “We have spent the last decade researching, testing, and refining SUN ONE, and with its debut we can now offer a greater range of wavelengths along with our leading therapies, which include red light, salt, and aromatherapy, as well as other offerings for healing.”
Why Vitamin D Matters
Vitamin D has earned the nickname “the sunshine vitamin” for good reason. Unlike most vitamins, it’s primarily produced by the body itself, triggered when skin is exposed to certain wavelengths of ultraviolet B (UVB) light. While it can also be obtained through certain foods and supplements, sunlight remains the body’s most efficient natural source of vitamin D production. Vitamin D acts like a hormone in the body, regulating calcium absorption, bone mineralization, and immune function while also regulating protein synthesis, growth, and performance in skeletal muscles.
Precision Where It Matters Most
Unlike broader-spectrum devices on the market, SUN ONE uses advanced, narrow-band LEDs with a peak wavelength of 295 nm, the specific UVB wavelength most effective for supporting the body’s natural process of producing Vitamin D.
SUN ONE’s proprietary, patent-pending design uses solid-state UVB LED technology engineered around a precise 295 nm peak. The LEDs allow for a compact, rechargeable design and skip the ongoing cost of replacing fluorescent bulbs, so the wellness device is precise, long-lasting and virtually maintenance-free.
“SUN ONE provides the exact wavelengths that the body requires without producing adjacent UVB and UVA wavelengths that the older devices deliver,” noted Dr. Duncan.

Built for Safety and Simplicity
SUN ONE was designed with guided, built-in safety features that make it very approachable for first-time users as well as experienced wellness enthusiasts to use at home or for business:
- Distance sensor: alerts users if they are too close or too far away for a usable dose. This keeps every session in the optimal range
- Skin-type selection with voice prompts, based on the Fitzpatrick Skin Type scale, automatically recommends the appropriate session according to the user’s skin type
- Protective eyewear reminder: Voice reminder to always wear the protective eyeglasses included with the SUN ONE device
- One-session-per-day design: safe, structured use rather than open-ended exposure
- Portable and rechargeable: ergonomic handle with multi-position stand offers flexibility for tabletop/flat surface use or inside a Clearlight infrared sauna
- Multiple languages: Instructions are audible and can be set for up to 10 different languages
Designed to Stack With the Clearlight Sauna Wellness Suite
SUN ONE was designed and engineered to work independently or inside a Clearlight Sauna. The articulating arm and rechargeable design make it easy to bring directly into a sauna session, allowing anyone to combine a SUN ONE session with their infrared sauna. The whole concept has evolved to allow the stacking of many therapies while in the sauna without requiring more time for each therapy to be enjoyed.
“We deeply understand how heat, light, cold, salt, aroma, and vibration work together as we’ve been doing this since the day we started,” said Dr. Duncan. “It’s the intentional layering of complementary modalities that produces a feeling of well-being. We built SUN ONE so people could add this remarkable therapy into their healing session, combining light and heat therapy to get more out of the time they’ve already set aside for their wellness routine.”
