To mark the first anniversary of our founder Trevor Steyn’s passing, Esse will open pre-orders on 1 November 2026 for his final book, Skin as it should be: A Microbiome Guidebook. The book traces the science of the skin microbiome from the first microscopes of the 1670s to modern metagenomic sequencing and makes the case for treating skin as a living ecosystem. Publication is expected in early 2027.
Net proceeds from the book will support the Forest Restoration Initiative at Thula iNyoni in Richmond, KZN, South Africa, where Trevor lived and raised his family for over 20 years. The initiative clears alien invasive species and plants indigenous Eastern Mistbelt Forest trees.
